How to Sanitise A Hotel Room: DIY Safety Tips for Travellers

There is no doubt to the fact that these are some real difficult times that we are going through. And, safety for everyone is a number one priority. Especially for our travellers, it becomes utmost important to sanitise everything around them. DIY has become essentially important and hence, how to sanitise a hotel room.

Therefore, we are sure that you don’t want to spend the night in a hotel with the germs of last night’s guests. But not just during COVID-19 but in general, this should be a part of your habit – cleaning those germ areas yourself.

So, here is a simple yet effective guide on how to sanitise a hotel room yourself.

First, you would need disinfectant wipes, not just any cleaning wipes but those that are clinically approved to kill viruses. This will help not only to clean your hotel room but to sit on an airplane.

Second, here is what all you need to clean when you enter the hotel room. Thoroughly wipe these areas:

  1. Switches
  2. All door knobs
  3. Bathroom sink handles
  4. Shower handles
  5. Toilet lid
  6. Flush handle
  7. Any kind of remote control
  8. Nightstands
  9. Alarm clocks
  10. Refrigerator Door

Rest of the items like glasses, and ice bucket, you can wash with soap and water thoroughly.

For the bedding unless they are not sealed in plastic bags – remove all the decorative bedspreads and pillow. Put them out and tell the hotel housekeeping staff not to place them back when they clean your room next.

Usually the heavy bedspread on top is not changed so frequently. However nice and cozy it may seem, but never use them because it could be a nice home for all germs and bodily fluids.

If you can bring one of those nice thin bed liners from home that are also travel friendly so that you can spread them on top of your questionable sheets.

Last but not the least, here is a list of products that every traveller should bring on every trip:

  1. Anti Bacterial Hand Gel

for times when you can’t wash your hands.

  2. Toothbrush Sanitiser

This product used UV light and kills 99.99% germs

  3. Antibacterial Wipes

to disinfect hotel room, phone and airplane seats

  4. Shower Slip ons

You might want to think twice before walking barefoot on a hotel room’s carpet. Carry lightweight flip flops.

  5. Portable air purifier

This removes spores and bacteria that can trigger allergies or illness.

  6. Travel Blanket

You might want to carry your own blanket instead.

Stay Safe!
